The district Battle of the Books competition will be held on March 26, 2026!!!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/p>

Battle of the Books is an exciting reading competition for 3rd, 4th & 5th grade students.\u00a0 Each school in SJCSD will select a team of 5\u00a0students<\/strong><\/span> to represent their school at the district battle.<\/p>

In order to try out for our school team, students must read a minimum<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>10 current<\/span> SSYRA<\/a> books by the first day of team tryouts (January 27 – February 9).<\/strong><\/p>

*No student is required to read to read all 15 SSYRA books to be on the team.\u00a0 Parents may contact Mr. Edeker if they would like to opt out of reading a current SSYRA book.<\/p>

The selection process will include multiple choice questions<\/span><\/strong> (like an AR quiz) from the SSYRA books.\u00a0 Each correct response is worth one point.\u00a0 \u00a0 At the end of the selection process, 5 students<\/span><\/strong><\/span> with the highest scores will be selected for our school team.<\/p>

There are three stages in our school team selection process:<\/p>
Stage 1: Qualifying Round (paper quiz)<\/span>
<\/strong>Eligible students that have read 10 books by the start date in each class will take a written (paper) BOB quiz during media resource classes (January 27 – February 9).<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>

Each correct answer on the written quiz earns the student one point.\u00a0 Bonus points are given for the number of books read (1 point per book) and will be added to their score.\u00a0 A total of 45 points may be earned in stage 1.<\/p>

Example:
Written Quiz – 30 points possible
BONUS POINTS for number of books read (1 point per book) \u2013 15 points possible
Total possible from Stage 1 = 45 points<\/p>

***Students must earn a minimum score of 26 points in order to advance to Stage 2.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Stage 2:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>Semi-Final Round<\/span><\/strong><\/span>
<\/strong><\/p>

Students advancing from Stage 1 will take a computerized quiz for the Semi Final Round with other eligible students in their grade.\u00a0 These are grade level battles and will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Top 5 students from in the grade level from this game will advance to Stage 3<\/strong>.<\/p>


Stage 3: Final Round<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Top 5 students in each grade level advancing from Stage 2 will play individually in the Final Round.\u00a0 This is a computerized quiz with 30 questions.
Top 5 students<\/span><\/span> with the highest scores will earn a spot on our school team.\u00a0<\/strong>
