The district Battle of the Books competition will be held on March 22, 2023!!!

All students interested in trying out for our school team MUST read a minimum of 10 current SSYRA books by January 8, 2024.
Battle of the Books is an exciting reading competition for 3rd, 4th & 5th grade students. Each school in SJCSD will select a team of 5 students to represent their school at the district battle.
In order to try out for our school team, students must read a minimum of 10 current (SSYRA) books by January 8, 2024.
The selection process will include multiple choice questions (like an AR quiz) and random quotes from the SSYRA books. Each correct response is worth one point. At the end of the selection process, 5 students with the highest scores will be selected for our school team.
There are three stages in our school team selection process:
| Stage 1: Qualifying Round Eligible students in each class will participate in 2 BOB quizzes/games during media resource classes. These rounds start on January 8, 2024. |
Each quiz/game will consist of 15 questions/quotes and every correct answer earns the student one point. At the end of two quizzes, the number of books read (1 point per book) will be added to their score. A total of 45 points can be earned.
Example:
Round 1 – 15 points possible
Round 2 – 15 points possible
BONUS POINTS for number of books read (1 point per book) – 15 points possible
Total possible from Qualifying Rounds = 45 points
***Students must earn a minimum score of 28 points in order to advance to Stage 2.
Only the top 5 students in each class will advance to stage 2.
Stage 2: Semi-Final Round
Students advancing from Stage 1 will play individually in the Semi Final Round. These are grade level battles.
Top 5 students from in the grade level from this game will advance to Stage 3.
Stage 3: Final Round
Top 5 students in each grade level will play individually in the Final Round.
Top 5 students with the overall highest scores from all rounds will earn a spot on our school team.
