 The Wave

June, 2014

.Dear PVPV/Rawlings’ Parents,

We would be remiss if we didn’t start out by recognizing our teachers retiring after so many years of dedicated service at our school.  We are grateful for the difference they have made and wish them the best in their retirement.

Coach Heekin – PE at PVPV campus / 24 years
Ms. Kirkendoll – Art at PVPV campus / 24 years
Mrs. Stout – Speech at PVPV campus / 23 years
Mrs. Campbell – 3rd grade at Rawlings / 23 years
Mrs. Kulick – 4th grade at Rawlings / 9 years

Bravo!!  I stand in amazement at all that has been accomplished to provide a quality education and experience for our students this year.  Just look at all the student accomplishments listed in this newsletter.  Through the commitment and hard work of many, our school year has been very successful.

I am extremely grateful for all those involved in our school community.  Volunteers, PTO, SAC, Ponte Vedra Public Education Foundation, and Community Partners in Education, all play an integral part of our success.  The investment of time, talent, and financial support in our school create a thriving learning environment.  The hard work and dedication of many have provided a safe and technology rich state of  the art school.  Listed below are improvements that have been made to our facility as the results of the efforts of many:

  • Invest $40,000 in a Computer (Math) Lab at PVPV
55 computer stations replete with furniture and wiring
  • Invest $15,000 in a mini computer lab in the Rawlings’ Media Center
  • Invest $30,000 in our Media Centers & TV Production Room
  • Invest $25,000 for K-5 instructional materials
  • Invest $10,000 for Resource (Art, Music, PE, ESE) Programming
  • Renew site licenses for iXL Math Program, Brain Pop, United Streaming and iXL for Language Arts

We have received the FCAT results for 3rd grade and the FCAT Writes for 4th grade.  We are still awaiting the results for 4th and 5th grade.  If these results are not received prior to the close of school, the reports will be mailed to your home.

Please see the attachments from Just Read Florida! and the St. Johns County Public Library System.  Please take your child to the public library and review the handouts so you can prevent your child from being a victim of summer reading loss.  Students are encouraged to take advantage of the summer learning opportunities that have been provided on our school website.  Please keep up your reading logs and practice math on iXL. If you have questions about logging on to IXL, contact Nikki Perry at Nikki.Perry@stjohns.k12.fl.us
and for eBooks user names/passwords, contact Mr. Edeker, vance.edeker@stjohns.k12.fl.us .  Visit our school website for other enriching learning activities.  Third through fifth graders may start reading the Sunshine State Young Readers books.  Our website also lists the school supplies for 2014-15 school year.

Just a reminder that our school office will operate at Ponte Vedra High School from June 16th—July 24th, Monday—Thursday, 7:30 a.m.—5:30 p.m.  Office staff phone numbers and emails will remain the same.

Goodbyes are never easy!!  First to our fifth graders and families not returning we wish you much success in your continued schooling.  We are going to miss our students so much.  You have made many contributions to our school and we will forever be grateful.  Best of luck at Ocean Palms and Valley Ridge Academy for those students transferring.

You all play a tremendous role in our fantastic school!  I know you join me in a final salute to our amazing staff.  It is a privilege and an honor to provide the leadership at PVPV/Rawlings.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Furness, Principal
