Attention current 4th grade students / rising 5th graders
for 2025-2026!

Safety Patrol and News Team information was presented to all current 4th grade students during a group assembly program on March 26, 2025

Read the information below and follow the instructions to apply.

Timeline to apply for Safety Patrol:

March 26th – Safety Patrol application process begins (applications will be posted on school website).

April 4th Last day to turn in your application to Mrs. Jason.  No late applications will be considered!!!

           April 17th – Announcement of Safety Patrol Team members

To apply for Safety Patrol:

  1. Download and print the application (Click Here) If needed, you may pick up a printed copy of the application from the front office.
  2. Complete and turn in your portion of the application to Mrs. Jason by the due date above. You can email your portion of the application to Mrs. Jason or turn it in to the Rawlings front office. (Click here to email Ms. Jason)
  3. Give your teacher recommendation form, resource teacher recommendation form and ACE recommendation form to your teachers. Teachers will complete the recommendation letters and turn in to Ms. Jason.

April 17 News team applications process begins (applications links will not be active until April 17th).

April 30 – Last day to turn in your application to Mr. Edeker.  No late applications will be considered!

          May 9th – Announcement of News Team members

To apply for  News Team:

  1. Starting April 17th, download and print the application (Click Here on April 17th).  If needed, you may pick up a printed copy of the application from the library.
  2. Complete and turn in your portion of the application to Mr. Edeker by the due date above. You can email your portion of the application to Mr. Edeker or use an USB jump drive. (Click here to email Mr. Edeker)
  3. Give your teacher recommendation form to your teacher (not a Resource teacher). Teachers will complete the recommendation letters and turn in to Mr. Edeker.

Frequently asked questions:

Q: Can I be in both Safety Patrol and News Team?

A: NO!  You cannot be in both Safety Patrol and News Team.  If you are selected to be a part of the Safety Patrol you should not apply for News Team.

Q: Can I ride the bus to school during my duty?

A: No buses when you are on Safety Patrol duty! Students will need alternate transportation on the weeks of their duty.  Students are required to be on duty at 8:00 am on the weeks of morning duty and stay until at least 3:05 pm on the weeks of afternoon duty.
A: No buses when you are on News Team duty! Students will need alternate transportation on the weeks of their duty.  Students are required to be on duty at 8:00 am on the weeks of filming the news show.

Q: If I am chosen, when will I be trained for duty?

A: New Safety Patrol members are trained during the month of May.  All team members will receive a training schedule.

A: News Team will have an orientation meeting during the month of May.  

Q: When will I be on duty for the 2025 – 2026 school year?

A: The first day of 5th grade!!! Some students will be scheduled to work on the first day of school.  A schedule will be provided for all members selected for Safety Patrol and News Team.
